Steve Collings, Technical Director at Leavitt Walmsley Associates Ltd (LWA), has won the award for Accounting Technician of the Year at the inaugural British Accountancy Awards 2011 held at Old Billingsgate Market in London on 30th November. The award was given in recognition of Steve’s professionalism, imagination and innovation which has made a positive difference to LWA as an organisation and the clients with whom they work.

On receiving his award, Steve said “I am delighted to be awarded the Accounting Technician of the Year Award in recognition of the work that I have done within the profession. At LWA, we are proud of the high standards of service we offer to our clients and this award is testament to the firm’s continuing high standards of service and level of knowledge.”

The judging panel commented “Not only did Steve excel above and beyond the call of duty in his day job, but he’s also managed to write highly successful books. He is clearly a dedicated man who worked tirelessly to raise the standards and professionalism of his part of the industry.”

Having already written three books, Steve is working on another title: International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) For Dummies to be published by one of the world’s largest publishers John Wiley & Sons, due for release in 2012. Steve has excelled both academically and professionally, working to improve standards across the accounting and legal professions with lectures and papers written on the subjects, all whilst becoming a director of the LWA at the age of just 35. Steve’s technical expertise and application of high work standards was also instrumental in the firm achieving the ACCA Quality Checked accreditation – an award given to just a handful of accountancy practices.

Managing Director of LWA, Les Leavitt, commented “Steve Collings stands for all absolutely every element the Accounting Technician of the Year award recognises, and above all he is one of the most humble professionals of his academic and professional level.”
