About Steve Collings

Steve Collings, FCCA is one of the directors at Leavitt Walmsley Associates Ltd where Steve trained and qualified.  Steve specialises in auditing and financial reporting (UK GAAP and IFRS) and Solicitors Accounts Rules as well as having an interest in taxation issues for small and medium-sized businesses.  Steve became a member of the Association of Accounting Technicians in 2001 and qualified as a Chartered Certified Accountant in 2005 and in 2010 became a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA). He obtained ACCA’s certificates in International Auditing Standards and Diploma in International Financial Reporting Standards in 2008.  Steve went on to successfully obtain the ACCA’s Certificate in IFRS for SMEs in 2013.

Steve holds statutory auditor status in the United Kingdom and is eligible to conduct and sign off audits of limited companies under UK company law. Steve works closely with professional bodies assisting them with technical aspects of UK and Ireland accounting standards, International Financial Reporting Standards and International Standards on Auditing and is the author of a number of authoritative technical factsheets for ACCA.  In 2019, Steve represented the accountancy profession in the Parliamentary Review and became a member of the Parliamentary Review in that year. Steve also represents the North West as a member of ACCA’s Practice Network Panel. Steve served on the UK and Ireland GAAP Technical Advisory Group at the Financial Reporting Council until October 2021.

Steve is the author of several books including Interpretation and Application of International Standards on Auditing (Wiley March 2011), IFRS For Dummies (Wiley April 2012) and Frequently Asked Questions in IFRS (Wiley, 2013). Steve is also author of Small Company Financial Reporting 2nd Edition (Bloomsbury Professional) and Financial Reporting for Unlisted Companies in the UK and Republic of Ireland 2nd Edition (Bloomsbury Professional). Steve continues to write for some of the UK’s leading publishers of accountancy and tax books, updating existing books and contributing to other works including textbooks for student accountants in both the UK and overseas. In March 2023, Steve agreed a contract to write ‘An Auditor’s Guide to Auditing Financial Statements in the UK’ for Bloomsbury Professional which was published in June 2024. Steve has co-authored ‘A Students Guide to Auditing Practice’ which will be published by Oxford University Press in 2025. Steve is currently involved in a technical editing capacity for ‘Bookkeeping and Accounting For Dummies’, the latest version which will publish in the UK in 2025.

Steve has written a significant number of articles that have been published in the leading accounting press including AccountingWEB.co.uk, Accounting Technician magazine, International Accountant, student accountant and Croner-i. He is also the author of several online courses for Accountingcpd.net and the Association of Accounting Technicians.

Steve is a prominent speaker on the CPD circuit on accounting and audit related issues. He has presented courses in the UK, the Caribbean and Singapore. Steve was named Accounting Technician of the Year at the 2011 British Accountancy Awards.  In 2013, Steve was presented with the Outstanding Contribution to the Accountancy Profession award by the Association of International Accountants. In 2017, Steve was highly commended from the Association of Accounting Technician for his work in the accountancy profession.
